A freelance copywriter for busy marketing managers

When you need extra hands on deck or someone to whip a hundred pages of AI content into shape, I can help.

A problem faced by many marketing directors

You're spinning plates. Dozens of them. And your team is perhaps getting smaller. You now have AI available to help you – but half the time you're not quite sure if chatGPT is the best thing in the world or adding more woes to your workload.

You know what you're trying to do. You know what you're trying to say in your ads, white papers, email marketing and web copy. What you don't know is how the hell you're going to find time to make it all happen.

I help busy marketing teams when they need an extra pair of hands.

I've worked in and around editorial and marketing departments for more than 20 years, and back when I was an employee, I was known as the guy who made sure the trains ran on time. Which was a metaphor. I didn't work in the railway sector.

In other words: safe hands? That's me.

"We've discovered a true wordsmith in Mike. I am proud to recommend him to those in need of an exceptional freelance copywriter."

Your AI copy – and what to do with it

Look. Let's not f**k around. You're using AI-generated copy, or at least you've probably experimented with it.

You're likely under pressure to get rid of people like me and let a computer come up with all the words your business needs – though perhaps you're putting up a good fight and holding off the tide.

I get it. I know that AI can create usable content in the blink of an eye. I'm not one of those copywriters who refuse to believe it exists.

I'm here to help you do whatever you need to do to make your marketing efforts sing. And if that means we have to use AI to speed things up, no drama.

Here's where things get interesting. I've spent much of the past 18 months helping cash-conscious marketing leaders like you work out how to take AI slop and turn it into usable copy.

I even have a specific page about my AI copy editing services.

A common cost-heavy commitment for many marketing managers is blog content. You already know that a heavily-researched blog running to 2,000 words could easily take a copywriter a day – resulting in a bill anywhere from £300 to £800, depending on who you use.

Getting AI to do it instead isn't always the answer.

But when a client asks me to, I can get a long blog created by AI ready for use in around two hours. And the end result? It's great.

You're getting what you need, I'm earning my hourly rate, and the copy's good and ready to publish.

It's also fact-checked and rinsed of all those way-too-familiar turns of phrase that are endemic to AI-generated text.

BUT WAIT! We don't have to go down this route. If you want non-infringing copy that is 100% created by me, I offer that, too (just as I have for the bulk of my career). I still regularly write with AI well and truly turned off – meaning I can offer you a documentable AI-free process that will ensure you don't fall foul of future lawsuits.

What my copywriting experience means for marketing managers

Thanks to my long editorial background (I was once in the top team at the UK's biggest magazine) and half-decent design skills, I can take care of anything you need.

My speciality is website copy, where my services include:

  • Creating a cohesive strategy for a website refresh, homepage reboot, or total overhaul, including details of which pages to include and how to link them all up.

  • All on-page SEO work, including keywords, internal linking, header tags and Google-friendly quality content written for humans.

  • Title tags and meta descriptions.

  • Uploading copy to WordPress (if required).

  • Basic designs showing what should go where and why. Hardly any copywriters do this, but I've been briefing designers for more than 20 years so it seems mad not to. It's also a fantastic way to kickstart the next phase of your project when your designer picks up the reins.

  • If you prefer taking a back seat while I get on with everything, I can oversee the project from start to finish, incorporating your feedback as we go.

As well as this, I'm here if you need white papers, marketing emails, LinkedIn articles, Facebook ads – the works. In short, I can save you tons of time. Hence the weird photo of a clock in a sheet. Which has a pocket.

All your copywriting needs covered

I've worked on hundreds of different projects in all kinds of sectors. My resumé includes:

  • Customer-facing copy for NatWest Bank and the BSI.

  • Sponsored copy for Harrods magazine and Business Insider.

  • Website copy for TITAN Containers (the world's largest privately-owned shipping container brand) and one of Asia's top recruitment firms.

  • Corporate content for major international businesses like KONE and Stora Enso.

  • Editing work for the Cannes Lions festival.

  • Interviews and profiles for up-and-coming organisations such as Upsales and Be the Business.

And that's not to mention the many dozens of well-established smaller firms I've worked with, such as HardSoft Computers, FixMyMind and Flair Event Staffing.

Ongoing copywriting support for your business

When you find a copywriter whose work you like, it pays to hold onto them. They have often helped create your 'voice', and anyone stepping into their shoes may not quite match the style you've come to call your own.

They also know the way you work – whether that's fast and loose or meticulous and by the book.

I have a number of clients who maintain strong links with me via a retainer and/or monthly commissions. Most recently, 'Fractional Head of Copy' is a title I've stepped into for a client.

It means I'm available to them for a certain number of hours or days every month, and it's ideal when you want some quick feedback on something. I can do the same for you.

What next?

Why not book me in for half a day? At a price that won't break the bank, you will get a feel for how I work and see how my writing (or AI editing) could work for you.

Or perhaps you're already convinced? Maybe you've taken a whistlestop tour of my website and decided I'm the freelance copywriting maverick you need. Fantastic. Just tell me what you're after, and I'll give you a quote.

I love taking on new clients and discovering new ways their websites and other marketing material can work for them.

I've helped businesses in pretty much every sector, from social care and finance to industrial, consultancies and FMCG.

So whether you're looking for a SaaS copywriter, a B2C copywriter, or you're running some sort of Bitcoin operation that doesn't quite fit into any category, give me a shout.

Actually, don't do that. Bitcoin makes my head hurt.
